The Boys’ Hostel is located near the main campus and provides a safe, comfortable, and disciplined living environment for students. The hostel is administered by a well-structured committee consisting of the Principal (Warden), Resident Tutor, senior faculty members, parents’ representatives, and student members. This system ensures smooth administration, discipline, and student welfare. The hostel is well furnished and equipped with essential facilities such as spacious rooms, purified drinking water, a hygienic dining hall, recreation room with TV and newspapers, study room, guest room, and a communal kitchen. Mess facilities provide balanced and nutritious food at reasonable rates under a dividing system managed by the students’ mess committee. Students are encouraged to participate in cultural activities, sports, and games. Facilities like volleyball and badminton courts promote physical fitness and teamwork. Twenty-four-hour security ensures a safe and peaceful atmosphere. Overall, the Boys’ Hostel promotes unity, self-discipline, cooperation, and professional fraternity, helping students develop confidence, responsibility, and mutual respect.

Ladies Hostel

The Ladies’ Hostel is situated in a secure and convenient location close to the main campus, providing a safe, comfortable, and supportive living environment for students. It functions as a home away from home, fostering academic focus, personal growth, and well-being. The hostel is efficiently managed by a hostel committee comprising the Principal (Warden), Resident Tutor, senior faculty members, parents’ representatives, and student representatives, ensuring discipline, safety, and smooth administration. The hostel is well furnished with spacious rooms and equipped with essential facilities such as purified drinking water, a hygienic dining hall, study room, recreation room with TV and newspapers, guest room, and common areas. Mess facilities provide nutritious and balanced food at affordable rates under a student-managed mess committee. Students are encouraged to take part in cultural activities, sports, and co-curricular programs, promoting confidence, leadership, and teamwork. Round-the-clock security and a disciplined atmosphere ensure a safe and peaceful stay. Overall, the Ladies’ Hostel promotes unity, self-discipline, mutual respect, and a positive campus life, helping students grow into confident and responsible professionals.

HOD'Message

Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at Government Polytechnic College, Palakkad. We started our journey in 1984 with a sanctioned intake of 60 students per year. The department offers a three year diploma course that consists of core civil engineering subjects such a Structural Design and Engineering, Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Construction materials & Engineering and Building Planning and Drawing.

Apart from these regular subjects, students are also trained to operate Total Station and work with soft wares involving Computer Aided Drafting, Structural Analysis and Design, Estimation, Project Planning and Implementation and GIS. The Laboratories in the Department are well equipped to enable practical learning with better understanding and to ensure the optimal consolidation of their knowledge.

Since 1984, we have maintained a consistent academic track record of being placed amongst the first five colleges in the state. The department has played a vital role in moulding the students to excel in their carrier. The alumini of the institution have been employed in various Government Departments and other firms in Private sector. The entire diploma course is designed in a manner that it would groom the students to become efficient field supervisors who would strive to maintain the highest standards in civil construction. The faculty members are recruited by the State Public Service Commission and are competent to deliver a positive learning experience with their excellent academic credentials and industry expertise. The technical staffs are also proficient in their respective fields. The Department also offers consultancy service to various stakeholders including Government Departments and Private firm and have been able to generate a revenue of about Rs. 5 lakhs within past two years.
