The Electrical Machines Laboratory is equipped with various electrical machines such as DC series, shunt and compound machines, single and three phase induction motors, transformers, alternators and synchronous motors. The lab also includes measuring instruments like voltmeters, ammeters, wattmeters and tachometers for conducting practical experiments under expert supervision.
The Electrical Workshop provides hands-on training in electrical wiring, circuit assembly and testing of electrical components. Students gain practical knowledge in installation techniques, electrical tools, and safety practices used in electrical engineering applications.
The college has a dedicated Training and Placement Cell that provides career guidance and placement opportunities for students. Mr. Harikrishnan B. S., Lecturer, serves as the Placement Coordinator of the department and actively supports students in preparing for employment opportunities.
Finishing School programs are conducted to enhance students’ employability skills. These programs focus on personality development, communication skills, and career guidance to help students make informed decisions for their future.
Technical seminars by industry experts and professionals are regularly organized to provide students with knowledge beyond the academic syllabus and expose them to the latest technological developments.
Students actively participate in various college and interzone sports competitions. Their consistent participation and achievements reflect the institution’s encouragement of sports and physical development.
The department facilitates mandatory industrial training and visits as part of the curriculum, allowing students to gain practical exposure to real-world industrial environments and professional practices.

Students from our department participated in Makathon 2022 organized by EMC, Thiruvananthapuram. The team performed exceptionally well and secured prizes in the competition.
Our department secured First Prize in the institution-level Cricket and Badminton competitions. With outstanding performance in various sports events, the department also emerged as the Overall Champion.
Ms. Athira V. of S6 EEE brought laurels to the institution by participating in the 72nd Republic Day Parade held in New Delhi, proudly representing the college and department.
Students from our department participated in Hackathon 2020 conducted at Sree Ernakulathappan College of Engineering and Management, Thrissur. The team achieved remarkable success by securing the First Runner-Up and Second Runner-Up positions.

Electrical and Electronics Engineering is the branch of engineering concerned with the practical applications of electricity in all its forms, including those of the fields of electronics. A Diploma holder in Electrical and Electronics Engineering has wide range of opportunities to work in the fields of Power Systems, Power Electronics, Control Systems, etc. in the Government Sector as well as Private Sector. This makes Electrical and Electronics Engineering one of the most sought after branches of Engineering discipline.
The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in Government Polytechnic College, Palakkad came into existence in the year 2014. The sanctioned intake of students in this branch is 60 per year.Within a short span of time, the Department of Electrical and Electronics has made its name in consistently producing students who excel in academics. Majority of the eligible students of our Department are placed in various reputed companies.

Apart from these regular subjects, students are also trained to operate Total Station and work with soft wares involving Computer Aided Drafting, Structural Analysis and Design, Estimation, Project Planning and Implementation and GIS. The Laboratories in the Department are well equipped to enable practical learning with better understanding and to ensure the optimal consolidation of their knowledge.
Since 1984, we have maintained a consistent academic track record of being placed amongst the first five colleges in the state. The department has played a vital role in moulding the students to excel in their carrier. The alumini of the institution have been employed in various Government Departments and other firms in Private sector. The entire diploma course is designed in a manner that it would groom the students to become efficient field supervisors who would strive to maintain the highest standards in civil construction. The faculty members are recruited by the State Public Service Commission and are competent to deliver a positive learning experience with their excellent academic credentials and industry expertise. The technical staffs are also proficient in their respective fields. The Department also offers consultancy service to various stakeholders including Government Departments and Private firm and have been able to generate a revenue of about Rs. 5 lakhs within past two years.
