Students develop CAD drawings, perform structural analysis and design, and execute project management activities. The lab also serves as a training centre for students and staff.
Well equipped for testing cement, aggregates and concrete including fineness, consistency, setting time, workability, sieve analysis and durability tests with consultancy support.
Provides practical training in masonry, building layout, plumbing works, painting and electrical wiring to give students real-world construction experience.
Facilities available for water quality analysis including pH, turbidity, solids, alkalinity, acidity, hardness, chloride content and residual chlorine testing.
Conducts soil testing such as index properties, permeability, compaction, shear strength and consolidation tests required for foundation design studies.
Equipped with UTM, CTM, impact, hardness and torsion testing machines for evaluating strength and durability of construction materials.
Supports experiments in topographic surveying, contour leveling and positioning of existing details as per curriculum requirements.

Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at Government Polytechnic College, Palakkad. We started our journey in 1984 with a sanctioned intake of 60 students per year. The department offers a three year diploma course that consists of core civil engineering subjects such a Structural Design and Engineering, Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Construction materials & Engineering and Building Planning and Drawing.
Apart from these regular subjects, students are also trained to operate Total Station and work with soft wares involving Computer Aided Drafting, Structural Analysis and Design, Estimation, Project Planning and Implementation and GIS. The Laboratories in the Department are well equipped to enable practical learning with better understanding and to ensure the optimal consolidation of their knowledge.Apart from these regular subjects, students are also trained .
