A physics laboratory is an essential part of scientific education where students explore and verify the fundamental principles of physics through practical experiments. The Chemistry Laboratory provides facilities for students to conduct experiments and study chemical reactions in a safe and controlled environment. It helps students develop important laboratory skills such as observation, measurement, analysis, and safe handling of chemicals while strengthening their understanding of chemical principles.
The Language Laboratory is designed to improve students’ English communication skills. Equipped with modern audio-visual tools and interactive learning systems, the lab allows students to practice listening, speaking, pronunciation, and communication activities that enhance fluency and confidence.
The Physical Education department promotes health, fitness, and sportsmanship among students. With well-equipped gym facilities and regular sports activities, students improve their physical strength, endurance, discipline, and teamwork, contributing to their overall physical and mental well-being.
An Anti-Drugs and Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme was conducted on 4th December 2021 to educate students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of maintaining a ragging-free campus environment.

Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at Government Polytechnic College, Palakkad. We started our journey in 1984 with a sanctioned intake of 60 students per year. The department offers a three year diploma course that consists of core civil engineering subjects such a Structural Design and Engineering, Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Construction materials & Engineering and Building Planning and Drawing.
Apart from these regular subjects, students are also trained to operate Total Station and work with soft wares involving Computer Aided Drafting, Structural Analysis and Design, Estimation, Project Planning and Implementation and GIS. The Laboratories in the Department are well equipped to enable practical learning with better understanding and to ensure the optimal consolidation of their knowledge.
Since 1984, we have maintained a consistent academic track record of being placed amongst the first five colleges in the state. The department has played a vital role in moulding the students to excel in their carrier. The alumini of the institution have been employed in various Government Departments and other firms in Private sector. The entire diploma course is designed in a manner that it would groom the students to become efficient field supervisors who would strive to maintain the highest standards in civil construction. The faculty members are recruited by the State Public Service Commission and are competent to deliver a positive learning experience with their excellent academic credentials and industry expertise. The technical staffs are also proficient in their respective fields. The Department also offers consultancy service to various stakeholders including Government Departments and Private firm and have been able to generate a revenue of about Rs. 5 lakhs within past two years.
